Creativity & Genre

Creativity might be the most important aspect of this project. Without creativity, my magazine will be just as similar as every other magazine that's ever been created. I have to start thinking outside the box, and I have to do it correctly so that I can make the process I need to create the magazine I wish to create. In my life, I have always tried to be creative. I find that I can be creative, but I am not always artistic. I have never been good at drawing or creating scenes that weren't commute computer animated. By choosing the magazine, I have gone a little outside of my comfort zone and I will have to try and create something that reflects my own ideas and incorporates small parts of others. When doing research on what makes me special, an activity that was done in class made me think deeply about myself. It was a simple activity dash we simply had to compare ourselves to either a food or an animal that we exhibited similar traits to. I compared myself to my favorite ic...

To Team or Not to Team

This week, I was tasked with making the decision whether to work independently on my portfolio project or with a team. First, I did some research into different methods of teamwork. through my research, I came across two interesting articles. One was about how teamwork is done at Microsoft. The Five Behaviors program, a case study done by Darci Kneidl focused on "trust, conflict, commitment, accountability and results, allowed those at Microsoft to work well together. Through the implementation of these principles, with honesty being a larger part than before, the team Kniedl created worked well and efficiently together (Becker, 2015). Another article talked about surrealism as an art form, and how artists use their unconscious thoughts to create their work, and this article discussed how they let creativity flow in their work. I might not use my unconscious thoughts in my project, but I think that I can utilize more creativity on the design aspect.  If I chose to work with a...

Decision Day

This week, I was tasked with testing out two different softwares to guide me in choosing my portfolio project. When first using Premier Pro, an Adobe video editing product, I immediately felt overwhelmed by the amount of features available to the user. Premier Pro allows you to import video clips, cut out pieces of film, add new audio in the background, as well as applying hundreds of effects to both audio and video content. When I imported my own clips, I felt a little more comfortable, as it is accessible to the user. I think that to fully master all of the functions of Premier Pro, it would take months, maybe even up to a full year. However, I found Adobe InDesign, a graphic/text design software, was much more accessible and easier to use. I had little to no issue in importing my photos, I could easily access all the tools and finding features was much easier. I felt this would better suit me out of the two programs, or maybe another option will arise for use in my project's des...
